    PROJECT 1: ANIMATED INFOGRAPHIC POSTER

"Your main intention is to analyse the “delivery mechanism’s” that
affect the outcomes of your infographics. Though content is important, however the aim of this presentation is too look at what makes
an infographic presentation work or does not work. This includes
content but only as one of the many components of an infographic:
- Infographic poster (20%)
- Minimal animated infographic (20%)"
____________
  Part 1 Progress

For the first part, I needed to find a poster that my lecturer will approve of
me changing. I wanted to do something with cats so I decided to search on
Google on bad infographics about cats. This was the poster that I had stumbled
  upon.

I decided to list down the issues that was found in the poster. With this list, I can easily figure out what needed to stay and what needed to go in the newly redesigned poster.
    Problems with the poster:

  - There's no theme in the colours
- The placement of the fonts are poorly placed
- The graphics aren't similar in style (magnifying glass is different from the cats)
- Font colour and background colour are sometimes too hard to read
- There's also too much information on the poster
- No hierarchy in the poster
With the issues stated, I decided to only have on the diseases, breeds and
preventitive health advice in my redesign since the information like aim and
conclusion aren't necessarily needed within an infographic poster. This also
saves me a lot of space which can use to redesign for a more aesthetically
  pleasing outlook.
Once I had addressed the problems, I went ahead and created some rough
sketches to visualise what the digitised version may look like.
Fig 1.2, Sketches for Redesign Posters

Sketches #2 and #3 were alright but didn't fit the minimalist but informative
style that I was going for so I went ahead with choosing sketch #1 as my main
inspiration for my digitisation stage which will be done in Adobe Illustrator.
_________
Firstly, I started off by using a similar green to the background of the
original to keep some of the originality. Since it was an infographic about
cats, I used the Shape and Pen Tool to create various shapes and grouped them
  together to make the cat.
I decided to make the cat black because it doesn't disturb the eyes too much
and it creates a nice subtle contrast with the light green background. It also
brings cohesion to the words and doesn't stand out too much besides it being
the main graphic of the poster.

Once I was done with the cat, I started to put in the necessary information. I underestimated how the information would've been shown so I went to Pinterest for inspiration; I found this Ramen Infographic made by Yaiza Molina [A more detailed version can be found in Behance] and used the grid and 3D system within my own poster since it felt unique and easy to relay information.

Secondly for the 'Breeds' category, I decided make graphics to show what the potential disease may look like since most viewers understand visuals better than condensed information. I've also highlighted the necessary words to give more emphasis.

Lastly, I created pawprints using the Pen and Shape tools. This subtly fills
up the blank sapce and creates a pattern that is pleasing to the eyes.

____________
  Part 2 Progress

For this part of the exercise, I did it in Adobe After Effects since I had
prior knowledge from the modules before this one. I realised that the sizing
was different and I had to remake the pawprint pattern visuals so that it
didn't cut off the frame like the original.
Once I was done with the pattern making, I started to make the patterns. I did
a side to side motion with Position to create subtle movements that wouldn't
disturb the main information. I also had each pattern move in different time
intervals so that each pawprint had its own unique time frame.

I wanted the cat to move subtly without needing multiple parts so I decided that the Puppet tool would be a good option. This method uses pins as its anchor point and each point can be moved with some mild distortion to the graphic; this makes animation much easier and it also doesn't require multiple layers and parts to create the animation.
I moved it ears, tail and feet for a cute outcome. I also used the Shape tool
to create 2 black circles and moved it with Scale so that it looks like the
  cat is blinking.

Similar with the cat graphic in the middle, I used the Puppet tool to create movement by adjusting the position of the pins.
Fig 2.3, Progress #3 of Part 2 Animated Infographic Poster

The movement is same with the graphics stated above where I've used the Puppet
tool to create movement. I felt that it was still slightly static even with
the graphics moving so I decided to move each catergory up and down to create
  more movement.

          REFLECTION

      Experience

For the first part of the project, I felt that I made a pretty good poster
with the skills I've gathered. By learning which information needed to
stay and go, it helped me realise that all the information isn't necessary
information and that it can be tossed if needed for a better understanding
poster for the viewers. For the second part of the project, I felt that I
did pretty good because I was able to complete this part of the task in
minimal timing. Even though I had done minimal movement for my editing, I
still felt proud that I was able to finish the workload within a few days
rather than weeks as this indicates my learning progression has improved
which made me more reliable with the program that I was using.

Although I had a good time with both the poster making and editing, I had
some frustration with the layout itself. I had stated before that the
original poster size is in A4 while the animated poster size is in 1080 x
1920 pixels which created the pawprints problem; I solved it by recreating
the pattern in After Effects but that took some time from me.

I have to thank my friends yet again for their encouragement when it came
to creating the poster. I didn't have much faith in myself when it came to
making things that's aesthethically pleasing for the eyes, but with the
guidance from my friends and the inspiration that I've found, I was able
to push through and create the current final poster that I had. Overall,
this project has taught me to be critical when it came to deciding what
information is necessary and what isn't and to not doubt yourself early on
to ensure that you'll be able to create a product that you like later on.
