_______________
PROJECT 2: CHANNEL BUMPER
"Students will synthesise the knowledge gained in task 1 for application in task 2. Students are to demonstrate the ability to explore and generate an abstract channel bumper in any creative approach with consideration of good audio tempo and visually compelling video."

____________
Progress

After hearing about this project, I went into the ideation process for a mood board. Before deciding on a final idea, I wrote out some of the ideas I already had.

I started working on idea 1 into a storyboard since I had an idea for it and consulted with our lecturer, Mr Fauzi, for feedback.

After consulting with him, I decided to do number 3 but with a different artist since I didn't want to misuse the Japanese words in Fujii Kaze's songs. I decided to specifically do the song "PUNCHIN'" by Will Joseph Cook.

Since I was certain of what I wanted, I sketched the storyboard according to my colour scheme.

I've also decided to make it into an animatic to see if it doesn't work out or not. This helps us to see if the channel bumper would look good or not before actually committing to editing the whole thing.

____________
Once I knew what I wanted to draw, I went into making the channel bumper in Adobe After Effects. Here are some of the progress I've made.

I decided to use the 3D function on the heart to make it look 3D and rotate it on the X-axis so it looks like it's spinning around.

Taking graphics from the music video itself and cropping the background so that I could use it as a transparent PNG within After Effects.

I used the shapes and pen tool to create the head and using the wave effect on the shape, I created a wave pattern which is then used as the vocal waves in the singing scene.

I've once again used the 3D mechanic to spin the album cover around to create motion, also using positions and text to spell out the song and artist name at the end as a smooth way to tell the audience who made this song and what name it is.

REFLECTION

For this project, I was quite nervous and drained when I went into this since I've never really done this type of media before, especially kinetic typography; I was also very apprehensive about the entire project since I didn't really have an idea when I went into this project and had a hard time coming up with an idea until I consulted with Mr Fauzi for more guidance which I'm very thankful for. I was quite inspired by one of my classmates who created a whole infomercial about shoes and it looked really professional; Another one who inspired me a lot was my friend who did this module last semester and also did a kinetic typography of a different music video. Overall, I felt that I was able to use the skills that I've acquired through what I've learned through Project 1 in this part of the project and I'm also more motivated to work more on this project during Project 3 where we have to lengthen our channel bumper.
