PROJECT 1: WALK CYCLE ANIMATION
"Students are to produce and manage an animation project individually by using relevant programs and software that enable 3D animation of walk cycle and jump. Document/compile their contribution of cycle animation clips through e-portfolio. Each progress should be clearly labelled, explained and dated in the blog entries"

____________
Vanilla Walk Progress

Before starting the walk cycle process, I went and found a reference in the Animator's Survival Kit that I wanted to use as a guide when making the 3D animation.

Fig 1.1, Walk Cycle Reference

After finding the reference, I put it into the blender file and started on the walk cycle. I started off by copying the poses that are within the reference which is known as the blocking phase. This phase helps with building the necessary frames within the animation before adding in any breakdowns or

Once I was done with the blocking, I went back to each keyframe to polish up any of the poses that felt may have felt weird or needed deleting. Some poses did feel off so I decided to tweak the limbs a bit to try and make the animation as smooth as possible.

____________
Attitude Walk Progress

Once I was done with the vanilla walk cycle, I went into finding an attitude walk and I remembered that the book Mr Kamal gave has a sneaking walk so I decided to use that as my reference.

Fig 3.1, Sneak Reference

Same with Vanilla Walk, I started off by copying the walks on the reference during this stage to get a sense of what I needed but then I added some of the poses I made myself into the sneak to create a smoother effect. I only used IK posing, position and rotation tools for posing the characters since I haven't learned how to use FK posing.

Once I was happy with the walk itself, I went ahead and changed the facial expression to match the sneaking attitude walk I've got for a more realistic look. I also went back and tweaked some of the poses till it looked smooth enough.

REFLECTION

For this assignment, I felt that I was able to improve a little from the exercise but I felt like I could do better in terms of movement for the Vanilla Walk cycle, it felt too clunky but it was the best I was able to do with the current skill level I had. I do want to improve further in the future projects that I'm given so I will try my best to improve during that time. I was quite motivated by Mr Kamal himself because he created a smooth walk cycle on his own with no reference in less than an hour and that made me very inspired to continue to work on my own; it genuinely was inspiring to see a professional create something extraordinary with the experience they've accumulated during the time they've worked. Overall, I know I can do better and I want to keep trying my best to improve for the upcoming projects; I want to someday be on Mr Kamal's level of expertise and create 3D animation of my own!
