_______________
PROJECT 1: SCRIPTWRITING

"Students will create short story for animation project step by step using the weekly courses as a guide. They will start by coming up with ideas, then construct characters, a setting, plot arcs, and themes. Finally, they will write a screenplay that ready for production."

____________
Progress

After going through the lectures with Mr Kamal, I was able to get a grasp on what and who I wanted to write about. The character was from a DND Campaign I am in currently called The Train to Everywhere and Nowhere, and within this Campaign, I had made a character called Raina Jenesis; So I decided that this module would be a good way to express my creativity and build a backstory to her character.

I started off with ideas off the top of my head and the one that stuck was where she wanted to traverse the land her late mother used to be to find herself or maybe something like a recipe left behind by her mother. So this was my first pass before asking Mr Kamal for feedback:

After telling Mr Kamal my idea, he said to focus on the needs of the character to make her relatable towards an audience and I went ahead and thought about it; She needed something to drive her towards the new world that I wanted to explore. I did an obvious twist where she finds the item she longed for but realising that it isn't what she needs so she brings it back and creates a dish that shows her experience of the challenges she faced. After figuring that out, I went ahead with fleshing out the trial report:

After fleshing out the story, I didn't really know how to write the script for the trial report so I asked Mr Kamal for help. He said that maybe instead of writing about the big picture, I should instead focus on one of the significant parts of the big picture.

After that, I decided I wanted to focus on the start of her journey where she loses her mother and seeks out a recipe that made her determined to head out without being able to properly mourn for her losses. Her friend, Calista, finding out about this information decides against her adventures and a verbal argument ensues where they both talk about their feelings. This story became the basis to my final report and scriptwriting.

REFLECTION

For this project, I had a lot of fun writing up my character, story and world description because I had started to create something that I could call my own! However, it was quite hard to figure out what I should and should not include in the final report since I had a lot of ideas for her specific story and how I wanted to head with it. It was quite nice to have the freedom to create anything I wanted and I was able to figure out how films were made with the lectures I had with Mr Kamal as they were very fun and informative. Something that I had struggled with was my time management and art block because I knew what I wanted to write but it always didn't feel right until I passed up my final scriptwriting which was a while after the deadline; There were many things I could've improved upon if I had the time but I didn't spend it wisely so I had regretted it quite a bit. This project had its ups and downs but I still had quite a lot of fun when I put in the hard work and I will do my best to be more timely with the other projects in the future.
