Digital Surrealism

Realism VS Surrealism:
Realism:
  • Takes subject matters of the ordinary and common world which we call "reality."
  • Non-exotic and non-extraordinary, no need to think outside the box as that is "not real".
Surrealism:
  • A twist on Realism.
  • Explores the subconscious mind, with subject matters concentrating on dream images and often aims to distort the ordinary and what we call reality.
  • Defies logic, a cultural movement focused on the types of art that express the artist's ideas themselves.

How to start creating Surrealism artworks:
  • Dream-like scenes and symbolic images
  • Unexpected, illogical juxtapositions
  • Bizarre assemblages of ordinary objects
  • Primitive or child-like designs
Capturing your dream:
  1. Sketch it out: Draw your vision out roughly. Don't finesse any details yet, but just lay out key points of your vision.
  2. Find reference images: Gathering reference images will help you greatly in realizing your new idea. Gather images that directly relate to what you have in mind.
Mindset during Creation:
  1. "Does it look real?": Surrealism is at its best when it's convincing enough that it could be real, however, we obviously know that the subject matter you are creating is nonexistent, and thus is not real.
  2. Make it happen to the best of your ability: When you try to approach something challenging, you will learn the skills you may need next time to make it work. The worst thing you can do is be afraid and back off from your idea because you would never learn that way.

Photoshop makes it easier than ever to create surrealist images, requiring just a medium level of skill to produce impressive results.

MyTiger Values SDG (Finalisation)

I had already finished my MyTiger Values poster, though Mr Fauzi wanted us to show him our final results and what the explanation of our poster means before submission.

FINAL MyTiger Values Poster Design

Title:
Doing What We Must

Explanation:
The SDG I chose for my poster was Responsible Consumption and Production. My narrative starts with the 3 famous words, reduce, reuse and recycle. Using these 3 words, I wanted to bring up the fact that everything can be used to create a sustainable lifestyle, even if it wasn’t meant to. I already had a photo similar to the topic and wanted to further pursue it by adding artistic elements towards it, so it looks more like a painting than a photo. This helps emphasise that such lifestyles should be seen by the world and that everyone can interrupt it however they want, meaning that any sustainable lifestyle is positive as long as it helps with the current world that we’re living in. The empty foam boxes and pots are where we can start our beginnings towards a better future with digital grass and leaves, hence why they are covered with them as it hasn’t started until we do. I want the world to understand that a sustainable lifestyle may be hard to obtain but if we were to work together towards that goal, the earth can become a better place without unnecessary consumption and production.

REFLECTION

This specific week was a very chill one as we just got back from the independent learning week,  we were briefed about the final project though Mr Fauzi wanted us to start it the next week so as to not overwhelm us from coming back from the independent learning week.
