LECTURE

_______________
Introduction to Photoshop 2

Lasso Tool:
  • Allows you to draw and pinpoint specific areas of a document.
  • Great to use with a graphic tablet because it's similar to a pencil.
Different Tool Options within the Lasso Tool:
  • Lasso
  • Polygon Lasso
  • Magnetic Lasso
Fig 1.1, Lasso Tool

Pen Tool:
  • Most common option when creating a path from scratch.
  • Where you can add points and drag the tool when you create those points to determine how they will look.
  • The fewer the points, the smoother it is.
Fig 1.2, Pen Tool

Variations of Pen Tool:
  • Straight line paths
  • U shape curves
  • Simple S curves
  • Complex S curves

The Beizer game is a good way to get the hang of using the pen tool.

Lasso Tool VS Pen Tool:
  • The pen tool is versatile that can be used to create extremely precise shapes and paths, using mainly anchor points.
  • Although commonly used to make selections, the pen tool was not natively made as a "selection tool".
Layering:
  • Different images are stacked on top of each other.
  • Each new layer can be used without affecting the other one to make adjustments, using layers for non-destructive editing which means we can never destroy the original image.
  • Together they form one final image.

TUTORIAL

_______________
Tutorial Briefing
  1. Demonstration of the Blending mode, Paths, Masking, Layering
  2. Briefing of Project 1B: Digital Collage
  3. Watched both of the videos above to get a better understanding of the composition

PRACTICAL

_______________
Practical Briefing
  1. Download all of the images to your computer.
  2. Follow the 'Enter Life' video tutorial demo as a reference to create your digital collage
  3. Create 3 different compositions of digital collages from the images that you’ve downloaded.
  4. Create an A4 canvas size  (vertical) on Photoshop and start to do the compositions.
  5. Take 3 photos of your digital collage compositions and insert them in the Google Doc given.
  6. Submit (Turn In) the file on Google Classroom.
  7. PROJECT 1A: PHYSICAL COLLAGE final review
  8. PROJECT 1B: DIGITAL COLLAGE
Since I was already finished with the physical collage, I started with the digital collages with the given images.

Digital Pre-composition 1:

Fig 2.1, Digital pre-composition 1

Explanation:
A modern yet simplistic collage where I took different elements and added perspective to it. The man in brown is the main subject as he contrasts the most with the background and initial colour scheme of blue, white and black. It also focuses on the subject in the foreground rather than the noisy background which gives a surreal yet serene environment.

Digital Pre-composition 2:

Fig 2.2, Digital pre-composition 2

Explanation:
This composition is a simple one and it takes components from a specific photo that shows people in a subway. I wanted to make a composition that focuses on the elements in the subway while the guy is just a way to add a focal point for people to look at.

Digital Pre-composition 3:

Fig 2.3, Digital pre-composition 3

Explanation:
I wanted to create a simplistic yet aesthetic collage where it focuses on the fish. I'm using its colour scheme to add details towards the subject while the swirly backdrop indicates the fish's habitat which is usually in the water.

REFLECTION

Personally, this week was a bit harder for me as it was my first time trying to create digital collages using software I'm completely new at. Though the collages are simple, I find them quite aesthetically pleasing towards the eyes and Mr Fauzi didn't dislike any of them so it's a win for me. I had a hard time but it was still quite enjoyable once I got the hang of it, it was also really fun creating anything I wanted even though there were restrictions like only using the images given but I found a loophole where the colours can be picked from certain images and create while nice textures to the collage.
